The new approach for life coaching websites.

The Is This You Exercise

Here are the four sentences to explain coaching from the client’s perspective. In one sentence, what’s the challenge/problem/issue for who? In one sentence, what’s the dream life/future/situation? In one sentence, what’s the holdup? Why stuck? In one sentence, what is needed to start fixing things? Post your answer below and we’ll boost it up. 😉

Wrapping Up Tasks

Some tasks we do to wrap up a website project include: Showing you how to get in and edit content. Sharing your site with everyone – coaching groups, fb friends, linkedin groups, etc. Everywhere! What else would be great for wrapping up projects?

Andrea’s Site

This is Andrea Dean’s special page as her site unfolds. Please share your comments below on the work. Everyone’s ideas are welcome. Thanks for helping. 1. How you became a coach? I became a coach after an incredible experience of the transformative power of coaching within a training program. I was looking for a career direction that was in keeping with my commitment to inner growth and empowerment. 2. What you love coaching on (subjects, types of clients, modalities) My back ground is in Education, particularly in the field of Catholic Education. I love to coach teachers and leaders and…

Jan’s Site

This is Jan Bavea’s special page for her unfolding website.  1. How you decided to become a coach? It seemed a natural progression from the work I was doing in schools as a counsellor. If I helped parents see their strengths and honour their successes the kids benefitted. 2. What you love coaching on (subjects, types of clients, modalities). Clients – graduate students juggling full time jobs, families, life etc, busy professional people whose lives include much more than work, their next project, getting derailed by health, family, aging parents, and needing to keep their eye on their source of…

The July Group

Ahh… another group of brave coaches journey to get their websites done quickly, and set off on their journey to getting more clients. Great! Our goal is to complete the websites with small 1-2 hours tasks done during the week/weekends to create content, get tech steps done, and create great looking site for your client-attraction systems. What’s special about this month is that we’re going to take things up another level and create a visual for the freebie to add more visual appeal. We are really going to SELL this freebie to generate more leads. This month we have two adventurers:…

Welcome Message Exercise

When people sign up for your email list, you must send them a welcome email and give them the juicy freebie. Your job in this step is to draft the welcome message. The keys are: 1. Use your own voice. 2. Congratulate them for taking action and welcome them. 3. Remind them of the value to be gained by being on your list. 4. Tell them how excited you are to help them. 5. Give them a link to the free download. Here’s a sample welcome message.   Subject: Open {name}. Body: Hi {name}. Good job taking action to grow your coaching…

The Freebie Exercise

We will title your freebie (aka special report, giveaway) that your market will froth at the mouth for. This giveaway entices people to come to your site, get on your list, and get a free taste of your coaching greatness. Let’s create a title. Key components to a great title : 1. A Mystery Element:  Five steps to, How to, The Secret to 2. Benefit: Make Money, Find Love, Stop Smoking 3. Competitive Advantage (why can’t get they get this anywhere else, or unique) Sample Formats Top 10 Strategies to Accomplish Result A in Y Days Five Steps to Completing…

The Challenge Exercise

Clients hire coaches … let me back up, people invest in things that are important to them. And what’s important is to overcome challenges, which is often about pain riddance like getting out of a crappy job or bad relationships, or poor health situation. Also what motivates people is dream realization – making great things happen. It’s arguable, but big pains are said to be most motivating. So, in the first section of the site, we’ll outline the challenge to be overcome. Some questions to ponder, scribble notes: What is it that people are really struggling with? Give more detail than…

The Account Exercise

We’re going to need: A domain name account, for which I recommend GoDaddy.com. A hosting account. Godaddy is ok for this for now for simplicity of having both in the same place. Get economy web hosting – their lowest cost plan. Do NOT get GoDaddy’s “WordPress hosting” – it’s the wrong kind. (I’m also testing out BlueHost and comparing the two. It’s ok if for some reason you want BlueHost) An email list service provider. I’ve messed around with many of them and I recommend AWeber. Just go sign up for the free trial. MailChimp would be my next option based on what…

Rachel Preiser’s Site

My name is Rachel Preiser. I am a medical doctor and I changed career course during my residency (after suffering a nutrition-related illness) to focus on my family life. In that time I became interested in preventing disease through a healthy lifestyle. I am currently in a nutrition program with the University of Alabama working towards my R.D. license. I live in NY, where I do my best to balance work, school and family, which includes my husband, 3 small children & a cat named Spider 🙂 About my coaching: I combine both nutrition consulting and wellness coaching as needed…

Emily’s Core Message

I copied and pasted this direct from Emily’s email to me. Two first drafts of her core message below: I help people living with diabetes who are frustrated and ashamed of their inconsistent lifestyle choices to reclaim control, health and self-respect. My passionate curiosity will help you create a powerful vision, a culmination of your now deep-rooted healthy lifestyle habits. I can help you master new habits, focus your energy and achieve the lifestyle you are proud of. I help people living with diabetes who are frustrated and ashamed of their inconsistent lifestyle choices to reclaim control, health and self-respect….

Emily Archer’s Website

This month, May, we’re going to create the Phase 2 style of website for Emily Archer. Let this post serve as the table of contents so to speak as her site unfolds. I’ll just update this post keep fresh. There is no action on your part at the moment, but stay tuned as we journey on another new website project.

Future Ideas

Below are ideas for enhancements to the sites: Add a blog Add a freebie (right now there’s just the promise of one by getting on the list, so this is quite urgent) Also having a menu at the top. How about a quotation by the coach as similarly done here: http://teothemes.com/wp/scrn/

The Results of the Project

This project completed early in April, 2015. It was a tremendous success and also opens up new ideas for me. I stopped the project about 2 weeks ago when we ran into week 5. We were supposed to get this done in 3 weeks. Below are the key results, some learnings, and a list of resources used and testimonials from the clients. As a short recap, we aimed to quickly (3 weeks) build 3 sites with a group format with client-focused content, using WordPress, my new simplified design approach and with short exercises that makes content writing (writing about yourself) easy…

Please give feedback on Ania’s website

The first draft of Ania’s site is up. Go here to check it out. Love your thoughts, reactions and ideas. Just post below. Note to Ania from Kenn: 1. We need some copy for the “How I help my clients” and an image to suit if something visual you feel would enhance it. Not required. 2. Need copy for the Beyond Cancer Call section I created. I made up this call name, so ideas are welcome. 3. For the bottom, we could use a good image.

The How I Work Exercise

In this section of the homepage we’re going to simply point out three key aspects of how you work with clients. This satisfies the “how this all works” logical aspect of the visitor’s mind. It’s also a chance for us to point out more value. Here are some ideas to help you hone in on what’s important to communicate. Special process you’re using like in Coaching for Performance (book). More detail on your USP or differentiation. A core coaching philosophy, belief or other. Key steps you go through with clients. Key details like calls or email support. Think about the…

Future ideas to improve

Hey gang … lots of great discussions and feedback, etc. Really awesome! I’m keeping a future ideas / wish list below for the next go round. This go was about speed, message and this new modern layout. Future ideas list (Other ideas welcome. Just post below.): Have a free giveaway. I’m personally thinking of a PDF instantly accessible without email list optin. Just a way to get people to your site and still stick to the call to action to call you for the strategy session. Again, the first intention of this project was speed, message, and modern layout, so…

The Great Domain Name Exercise

Step 1. Grab coffee and make your space Your coaching business is your dream and I venture to guess that having fun with the business side of things would be great too. So, find your space, let go of any tension, grab your fave brainy drink, and enjoy this next step. Also, don’t get too caught up in it. Just make a good effort and get your ideas to share. We’re all going to chime in on your work to make it great. I recommend setting a time limit, 60 minutes is good, and enjoy what you’ve done. Remember Kenn’s tip…

The Fitting Font Exercise

To add more feel we’re gonna pick a Google font that gives the vibe we want on the site. Google fonts are great, many, and free for all kinds of use. Sweet. Go Google. Type into the google box some words that you want your site to feel like. For example if you want your site to be “Smart and Strong”, then type those words into the text box of google.

The Call to Action Exercise

It’s time to write out invitation to get the visitor to contact us so that we can sell them on coaching. You can call this your main call to action, your primary response. [Side note: One evolving piece of this project is if we should have a call to action at the top of the site for an email sign up or a way to follow the blog (and even if we should have any blog apparent). Things get a little confusing once we start considering this element. But regardless, we’re going to have a compelling invite.] This invite is an…

The About Me Exercise

In this bottom section of the page we will write a short “about me” section. I’m going to let the structure for this section unfold as you all write this up. Here are some super things to include in this section. (1) Your core message again. But feel free to say it in a different way, shorter, casualer, up to you. (2) Your why – people love WHY you do things. This will likely tie into why/how you became a coach. I love this TED talk on your why by Simon Sinek. A must watch for this step: http://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action?language=en (3) Any key credential…

The Website Drafts

I’ve posted each website separate so that we can discuss them individually. All three in one post is gonna get messy. For Jenny’s site, go to this post. For Ania’s site, go here. (coming soon) For Pam’s site, go here. (soon come)

The Success Stories Exercise

Step 1. Soak in some wisdom on how to create rock-star testimonials success stories Our goal is to get three testimonials in two days. Your task, if you don’t already have testimonials, is to get three good testimonials (your most successful clients) in the next two days. You will be able to add more later. Your prospective clients want proof that you can deliver. Third person recommendations, testimonials, are very powerful convincers clients you can help them. A must for your website. We are going to use the “success story” format. It communicates heaps better than the traditional testimonial. The model…

The Perfect Pic Exercise

The strategy I’m using for design is to get a great image to build from. Either a great shot of you or a great photo that represents the ideal world for the client. Either of those types will do. Let’s get a perfect one. I’d aim first for a great shot of you. Either I suggest we get a great shot of you and base the site on that. We’re essentially Current styles are with you looking off at an angle. Regardless of the angle, I think the feeling needs to be there. That you’re genuine, good, receptive or whatever feel you…

The Core Message Exercise

You core message for this project will be the one paragraph that speaks directly to the ideal visitor. It’s extremely compelling to them. The rest of the site comes from this. There are three pieces: who, what and usp. Who – Words to describe who the ideals are. It can be office women, it can be soon to be moms, it can be overweight executives. Use words to describe the people and if age is key, then say so, like 50+ single women … if age isn’t the key factor, then maybe it’s occupation like single shy city women, or married…

The content sections

Here’s a quick draft of the sections of the home page. The website is going to be full-width website, with the key sections shown below. Imagine each box as about the size of a screen on a typical 13 inch laptop. The face or good pic is the one image will design from. Let’s get a great headshot of you or a shot of you speaking or talking to a client. The core message is going to be a juicy paragraph or two (much of which many of you seem to have). This is our first thing to iron out. The website name…

Getting started. Ready?

Hey gang, let’s get going! I’m excited to do this and thanks for being a part of it. Great! Really, this should be fun. I’m avoid calls because they suck up time and are a scheduling mess for more than 1 person. Quick is our plan here. So, let this website be our communication center. Coolio? It’s a blog, just comment as we go. Others will be encouraged to follow along, lurk and comment. Here’s are the three weeks scheduled out. Let’s stick to it our best and adjust as we go. We are starting Monday 23rd of March, 2015. Week 1…
